Liga I, officially branded as the SuperLiga, is the highest level of football in Romania, followed by Liga II and a wider structure of national and county competitions. The national championship dates back to 1909, with clubs including FCSB, Dinamo Bucuresti, Rapid Bucuresti, CFR Cluj and Universitatea Craiova contributing to a rich domestic history. Romanian clubs have also enjoyed notable European success, led by Steaua Bucuresti's European Cup triumph in 1986.
